Books I recommend
These are generally available from various websites and some music shops. I would always encourage to shop locally, so checking out your local shop first, but if they don’t have what you want, then musicroom.com, Hive.co.uk or World of Books would be my next recommendations.
Learning to read music
There are loads of tuition books available and I’m happy to work with whatever you may already have, but the ones I usually recommend to get started are:
The Guitarist’s Way series
Guitar Basics
Grades
Classical guitar: Trinity syllabus
Acoustic guitar: RSL syllabus or occasionally Trinity
Electric guitar: RSL syllabus
Music shops in Reading
There is something magical about entering a music shop, especially when you’re a kid: to see a vast array of guitars hanging on walls, all sorts of strange gadgets on display and hearing other players “noodling” around.
But the internet makes it challenging for many retailers, and music shops are no different, so I thoroughly recommend supporting your local shops where possible.
Other local music teachers
I’m happy to recommend other local teachers if I know any for the instrument in question, so feel free to ask. 🙂
